Potret Budaya Jawa dalam Novel Kereta Semar Lembu Karya Zaky Yamani

Abstract

Portraits of humans and their culture are intriguing topresent in literary works. The author uses literary works as a means of socializing about a particular culture and the elements contained in that culture. This research examines Javanese culture as depicted in the novel Kereta SemarLembu by Zaky Yamani using a literary anthropology approach and referring to theformulation of cultural elements putforward by Koentjaraningrat. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research with data sources in theform of words,phrases, and sentences according to the objectives of this research. Data collection methods were carried out using reading, note-taking, and library study techniques. The analysis technique used is the data triangulation technique, which includes the data reduction stage, namely selecting and summarizing the main findings for the research objectives; the data presentation stage, namely describing and analyzing the findings presented in narrative form; and the conclusion drawing stage. The results and conclusions of this research are the discovery of seven cultural elements, namely language in the form of Javanese; knowledge system in the form of Javanese mythology; social systems and community organizations in the form of kinship, systems of living equipment and technology in theform of clothing and means of transportation; livelihood system, namely farming; the religious system is Javanese, and the arts are ronggeng dance and gamelan.
