Abstract

Abstract. Sexism, a pervasive form of gender prejudice, often results in the perception of one gender as superior or inferior, manifesting through attitudes, actions, and systemic practices that uphold gender hierarchies and perpetuate unequal treatment. The entertainment industry, with its widespread influence, exacerbates these prejudices by shaping public perceptions of women. This study examines the sexism experienced by Kim Kardashian, leveraging Glick and Fiske's Ambivalent Sexism Theory to analyze both hostile and benevolent sexism directed at her on social media platforms, particularly Instagram.

Hence, the objective of this study is to examine the frequent targeting of the Kardashian family with sexist beliefs. This study uses a qualitative research methodology, primarily case study methodologies, to investigate the sexism experienced by Kim Kardashian. Interviews, questionnaires, live observations, and a thorough examination of pertinent publications, journals, and previous studies will all be used by researchers to gather data.

The primary goal of this study is to collect data from social media platforms, with a particular emphasis on assessing comments that demonstrate sexism, hate speech, patriarchy, misogyny, discrimination, and associated topics on Kim Kardashian's Instagram account. The findings of this study demonstrate that Kim Kardashian elicits both hostile and benign sexist behavior in Instagram comments, as analyzed through The Ambivalent Sexism theory.
