Abstract

Abstract
The study aims to reveal the description of emotional regulation in two husbands who have wives with cancer. The research method used is a qualitative research method with a case study approach. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using content analysis. The results of the study showed that subject 1 used the situation selection strategy to avoid situations that caused feelings of sadness and pity by seeking treatment for his wife. Situation modification by seeking alternative treatment because he could not bear to see his wife in pain. Attentional deployment diverted attention by working so as not to get lost in sadness. Cognitive change by interpreting his condition as a test from God. The subject tried to be steadfast and prayed in the response modulation strategy. Subject 2 showed situation selection to accept his wife's condition by immediately seeking treatment for his wife. Cognitive change by interpreting his wife's illness as a test from God, making changes to the situation (situation modification) by dividing time to take care of the house and children, and diverting emotions (attentional deployment) by focusing on work. The subject was patient and went through each condition that was passed as a response modification strategy. Emotional regulation in husbands plays a very important role in accompanying wives who have cancer, so that medical interventions for cancer patients should be accompanied by psychoeducation and support for husbands or other family members as caregivers.
