Abstract

Abstract. Indonesia is the country with the richest biodiversity in the world, but Indonesia faces challenges in the field of environmental development. Along with the issuance of Perpres No. 55 of 2019 concerning the acceleration of electric vehicles, the challenges and environmental threats that will be faced by Indonesia are B3 waste from lithium-ion batteries . This waste can threaten the defense and security of the State in the future will come. The purpose of this research is to analyze the right battery recycling technology so that it can be applied. The method used in this study is a comparative- descriptive qualitative method to analyze and compare the most effective recycling methods. From two previous studies and interviews with resource persons at the Center for Materials and Technical Goods (B4T), it was found that a good recycling technology to be applied was hydrometallurgy to separate the metal and mineral compounds that are in the battery waste. Recycling is useful to prevent waste of natural resources, prevent the import of raw materials , and prevent environmental pollution. This technology can be applied and developed by the battery industry, the defense industry, as well as related agencies and institutions.
