Abstract


I
students at SDN Mendut in learning the theme of me. The general research objective that is discussed in this study is
how to improve reading skills and learning outcomes for grade I students using image media. The data source of this
research is Grade I students at SD Negeri Mendut, Mungkid District, with a total of 12 students. The time of the
research was carried out in semester 1 of the 2021/2022 academic year.
Learning to read at Mendut Elementary School so far only uses conventional learning media, namely by
using the blackboard, teacher-centered learning, the use of media in learning as a tool is still very limited, this causes
low initial reading skills and looks almost 65 % of students still have difficulty reading in the teaching and learning
process. The method used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative data obtained from the
results of tests and observations of students and teachers. quantitative data obtained from the results of learning
tests. The design of this study refers to the design by Kemmis and Mc Taggart which consists of four stages, namely
planning, implementing actions, observing and reflecting.
Data is collected through process assessment and outcome assessment at the end of each action. This
research was conducted in two cycles. In the first cycle, the students' average score was 84.17 with a classical
learning completeness of 75%. In cycle II, the average value increased to 93 with classical completeness of 100%
