Abstract

The background for choosing the Problem Based Learning learning model is as an effort to improve the learning
outcomes of fourth grade students at SD Negeri 26 Sigiran, Tanjung Raya sub-district, Agam Regency. Judging
from the learning outcomes of students, most of whom scored below the KKM.
This research is an activity to measure the level of effectiveness of the use of learning models packaged with
Classroom Action Research (CAR). This Classroom Action Research was carried out in 2 cycles. The research
design used in this study is a spiral spiral design according to Kemmis and Taggart (Simatupang, 2003: 483).
According to Soedarsono (1996/1997:12), the spiral model proposed by Kemmis and Taggart consists of 4 main
components, namely: 1) Planning, 2) Action, 3) Observation, and 4) Reflection (reflection). The subjects of this
research activity were the fourth grade students of SD N 26 Sigiran as many as 19 students. Data collection
techniques used are tests and observations. While the instrument used is the evaluation of learning that is
distributed to students.
The results showed that there was a significant increase. This is indicated by the increase in student learning
completeness which was originally only 47.36% in pre-cycle activities, in the first cycle it became 73.68% and
in the second cycle it became 89.47%. In addition, the average value also increased from 58.42 in the pre-cycle,
70 in the first cycle and in the second cycle to 83.68.
Based on these data, it can be concluded that the use of Problem Based Learning learning model can improve
student learning outcomes so that it can be applied by classroom teachers and can be used as a reference in
carrying out subsequent research.
