Abstract


Reading skills development techniques for early childhood are quite diverse. Based on observations that have been
made by the author in accordance with indicators of child development achievement in Group B of Kartikasari
Kindergarten from 18 children obtained data of 2 children who are able to read syllables, according to
expectations, And 5 children begin to develop which means that children can read syllables, with the help of
teachers and spelled, while children who have not been able to read at all, or have not developed there are 11
This means that approximately 86% of children in Group B still need guidance again in knowing syllables. There
are many factors that cause the ability to read children in grade B kindergarten Kartikasari, one of which is dalah,
methods or media that are less attractive. In connection with this, researchers will conduct Class Action Research,
with the aim of improving children's initial reading skills through the medium of picture word cards in group B of
Kartikasari Karangsari Banguntapan Bantul Kindergarten, in the hope that, with this research, it will be an
improvement in learning that has many benefits for students, teachers, and schools.
