Abstract

(Online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic is a big challenge, not only for students but also for teachers. One
of the challenges often faced by the teachers, especially the English teachers in Indonesia, is the decline in student
collaboration when they work in groups. The use of the literature circle discussion method during online learning
showed an increase in student involvement in groups. The results obtained both from the class action research
during the learning process and also from the interviews showed an increase of 92% in the first cycle and 96% in
the second cycle. These results indicated that the students were aware of the responsibility for the roles they had
so that they became more active in contributing when they worked in groups even though they only communicated
online. The existence of clear roles and responsibilities for each group member had an impact on the student
activity in collaborating to make a real contribution.)
