Abstract


The information era is identical to literacy era that describes the ability to interact, communicate, and even actualize not enough to be expressed verbally, but also on writing. Writing culture needs to be develop in Indonesian language and literature in school environment. Literacy itself is very important for students, it effects the student's achievement on learning. Literacy skills will help students in understanding oral text, writing, and images / visual, therefore the development of student literacy in learning is always done in an integrated way between listening activities, speaking, reading and writing. The purpose of literacy activities in the learning of Indonesian Language and Literature is to cultivate the character of the students through the culture of literacy and increase the capacity of students to literate. Therefore, literacy activities undertaken in the learning of language and literature of Indonesia, among others, apply the culture of literacy. Literacy cultural is able to cultivate the character of the students because with the books that students read will affect the mindset and behavior of students so that with the existence of this literacy culture all forms of manners acquired in books readers can be channeled in school, family and community , in addition to other ways to realize the culture of literacy is to motivate, inspire and train students to produce their own works as well as work together and the results of the student's tasks writing literature together and then published as a form of student motivation to become a writer supports students to make activities- linguistic and literacy activities such as book review, student work launching, literary exhibition, poetry reading and theater.
