PEMANFAATAN MEDIA SOSIAL SEBAGAI ALTERNATIF MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS LITERASI DIGITAL YANG INTERAKTIF DAN KEKINIAN

Abstract


Reports from Smartphone User Persona Report (SUPR) released by world-renowned mobile platform manufacturer, Vserv, said that the growth of Indonesia's smartphone users grew 33 percent from 2013 to 2017. The high level of smartphone usage nowadays triggered the presence digital literacy trends. Digital literacy is the ability to understand information based on digital devices. In harmony with this, the high intensity of the use of devices in millennial youth enables teachers to optimize the role of the device not just as a means of entertainment for students, but can be used as a medium of learning. Social media as one of the most frequently accessed applications by students can be utilized as a digital-based literacy learning media. Teachers can use social media as a source of instructional media, such as the use of caricature memes or cartoons, and can also be used as a forum for publication of project-based learning tasks. Optimizing the role of social media as a medium of instruction will lead students to a good understanding of digital literacy, so as to minimize the negative effects of social media.
