Abstract

Less interesting methods of reading learning are one factor in the low ability of early childhood to recognize and understand letters. This affects the low interest of children in reading. The inability of children to read will affect their knowledge in the future.
It is important to find a solution so that these problems can be resolved. Research conducted by Glenn Doman in Hariyanto (2009: 30) states that children under five can be taught to read and more effective than children who enter school age (6 years). According to Doman, the smaller the age of the child, the smaller they are taught to read. The most important thing is that in teaching children to read it must be an interesting and pleasant atmosphere, learning while playing is a hallmark of early childhood education. With flash card / word cards in learning to read children's abilities will increase, Children will feel happy and not bored in learning to read. Through flash card media it is hoped that it can help improve early childhood reading skills. The way to learn to use flash card / read card is to show children the words or pictures in a card shape.
