Abstract

Muhammadiyah Purwodadi elementary school, is a Muhammadiyah Business Charity (AUM) which was recently established in 2015. This elementary school still needs a lot of support so that it can continue to develop and improve its quality. The training for the preparation of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions was motivated by the problems faced by Purwodadi Muhammadiyah elementary school teachers, namely: (1) lack of knowledge and understanding of teachers about learning evaluation in elementary schools; and (2) the teacher's lack of ability in preparing HOTS-based evaluation questions. The learning evaluation questions given in assessing student learning outcomes are still at the Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) level. An alternative solution to this problem is to provide training and assistance in understanding learning evaluation and preparing questions based on the guidelines for writing HOTS questions. This training is expected to open up the teacher's insight about preparing questions and improve the teacher's ability to compose questions at the level of higher-order thinking skills so that it can be used to measure the development of students' thinking and reasoning power. The implementation of this community service activity consists of three stages, namely: (1) preparation, (2) implementation, and (3) activity evaluation. The output of partner empowerment, namely the knowledge and skills of partners in preparing learning evaluation instruments and HOTS-based questions, has increased.
