Pelatihan komunikasi empatik bagi guru-guru SMP Muhammadiyah se-PDM Bantul

Abstract


Empathic Communication Training aims to provide teachers to have high empathic communication skills. The materials in this training include understanding the definition and importance of empathic communication, recognizing impacts of destructive interpersonal communication, and practicing empathy communication in order to be able to keep good communication patterns.Empathic Communication Training was held on August 30th, 2019 for 7 hours and took place in the Bantul PDM Building. The training was attended by 17 Muhammadiyah Junior High School teachers of PDM Bantul. Empathic Communication Training was carried out in 3 sessions. Session I is understanding and importance of empathic communication, Session II is therapeutic communication, Session III is role playing empathic communication.The evaluations showed that after training in the role play session, all participants were to be able to play role of a teacher who communicates by applying empathic techniques. For example, the participants were willing to listen to the others when expressing opinions; to listen actively by responding both verbally and non-verbally; and showing empathy to the others and warning the others in a polite manner. Based on the evaluations, it can be concluded that Empathic Communication Training is effective to improve empathic communication skills of teachers.
