Penerapan Guided Mental Imagery untuk Menurunkan Kecemasan Berbicara di Depan Umum

Abstract


Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh guided mental imagery dalam menurunkan kecemasan berbicara di depan umum. Subjek penelitian adalah 11 siswa kelas VIII di sebuah SMP swasta di Kota Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen pretest-posttest control group design. Modul guided mental imagery untuk mengurangi kecemasan berbicara di depan umum disusun berdasarkan modul guide mental imagery dari Strauss, Patrick, dan Christine (2009). Metode pengumpulan data pretes dan postes menggunakan Skala Kecemasan Berbicara di Depan Umum yang disusun berdasarkan aspek-aspek kecemasan berbicara di depan umum (Rogers, 2000). Data penelitian dianalisis memakai uji independent sample t test menggunakan bantuan komputer program SPSS versi 16.00 for windows. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan adanya pengaruh yang sangat signifikan guided mental imagery terhadap penurunan kecemasan berbicara di depan umum (t = 3,853 dan p = 0,002 (p < 0,01); rerata gain score kelompok eksperimen sebesar -11,00 dan rerata gain score kelompok kontrol sebesar -2,00). Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa guided mental imagery dapat menurunkan kecemasan berbicara di depan umum.
