TEACHER'S STRATEGIES IN TEACHING ENGLISH TO YOUNG LEARNERS IN SD MUHAMMADIYAH KARANGKAJEN
Abstract
Since elementary school, learners are required to comprehend and use English. The task of teaching English to elementary school students is challenging, and teachers must constantly provide engaging media for the classroom. Therefore, teachers need strategies to teach English to young learners. This article aims to know the teacher's problems and strategies for teaching English in SD Muhammadiyah Karangkajen. This article employs qualitative methods by conducting observations and interviews with English teachers at SD Muhammadiyah Karangkajen. Vocabulary is the biggest obstacle in teaching elementary school students English since English is not their first language, thus they find it difficult to memorize words or phrases in English. Drilling and providing some vocabulary before the lesson starts are the strategies employed by the English teacher in SD Muhammadiyah Karangkajen.
