Discrimination That Experienced by African-American Women on Hidden Figures Movie by Theodore Melfi

Abstract

The film Hidden Figures clearly shows the injustices committed by white people against black people in Virginia, the United States, as a majority-black society. The true story of three African American women who work at NASA on space rocket launches serves as the basis for the movie Hidden Figures. The three African-American women are Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson. These three women experience racial or skin-color prejudice at work at NASA against the backdrop of the 1960s. This study focusing on the discrimination theory to analyze discrimination that experienced by Black Scientists Katherine Goble, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson in Hidden Figures movie.

The writer uses descriptive qualitative method in this study. The subject of this study is Theodore Melfi Hidden Figures movie and type of discrimination. In this study, the data consists of scenes and conversation from the movie. The analysis findings are given in the description of the primary data. This technique is used to describe the basic features of the data in a study.

The outcome demonstrates that prejudice against Black people in particular continues to occur often in public. The experiences of the African-American female protagonists in the film demonstrate that, despite their inability to turn white and the discrimination they face in the workplace, they are still capable of realizing their dreams with a strong will and a lot of effort. Lastly, the author provides a thorough conclusion to the analysis.
