Racial Discrimination Portrayed In Clint Eastwood’s Movie Gran Torino
Abstract
The topic of discrimination in Clint Eastwood's film Gran Torino is examined in this paper. The film, which is well-known for its creativity and profound moral lessons, effectively illustrates the terrible consequences of racial prejudice. The compelling story of Gran Torino aims to make viewers aware of the widespread repercussions of prejudice and encourage them to make their surroundings more welcoming.
The study employs Gordon Allport's theories, particularly "The Nature of Prejudice," to explain how prejudice is shown in the film through acts of physical and verbal abuse, assaults, avoidance, segregation, and annihilation. The study connects these theoretical concepts with the movie's narrative to highlight how important it is to address and reduce racial prejudice.
Ultimately, this paper highlights how Gran Torino serves as a catalyst for social change and stresses the significance of combating inequality to build a more egalitarian society. Because of its strong message and relationship to Allport's ideals, the film provides significant insights on the detrimental effects of racial prejudice and the urgent need for society to reflect and change.
