Cultural Appropriation Accusation Inside 8 Mile Film

Abstract

Discrimination has been a serious problem in America for a long time. This problem becomes serious attention because discrimination can causes a person to experience mental problems and harms the victim's future.

Discrimination can take various forms, one them can be found when somebody accusing someone doing cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation itself means adopting another culture to reach personal gain and individual goals, such as achieving success and making money. This action emerged amidst incessant news of discrimination carried out by white people which encouraged the view that white people could also experience discriminatory treatment.

Carter (2) states that everyone can experience discrimination, not limited to different races or skin colors. Accusations of cultural appropriation against white people appear as an act of defending culture in the wrong way because the accusations that occur are often accompanied by verbal or non-verbal actions.

This action actually optimized the situation, even though without realizing it, it was developments over time that caused this black culture to be spread and used by many people. Globalization causes cultural acculturation, making people who know become interested and try the characteristics of black culture, especially hip-hop music which is now a favorite of young people throughout the world.
