THE SEXIST LANGUAGE USED IN STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW “INFAMOUS” BY ANDREW SCHULZ

Abstract

Abstract. in this study, the researcher discusses the use of sexist language from a stand up comedian named Andrew Schulz in his special show entitled "INFAMOUS". the purpose of this study is to classify the types of sexist language used and describe the context and reasons for the language used. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method which involves the representation of data, both verbal and written, to explain behavior and phenomena that can be observed. from the stand up comedy video made by Andrew Schulz, the author found two types of sexist language both indirect sexism and overt sexism as well as why the language is used and explains the context behind the language used. The researcher believes that it is important for society to criticize the use of sexist language even in the context of comedy or entertainment, as this is how social change can move towards a more inclusive society.
