A CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF THE SONG LYRICS OF “MONTERO” BY LIL NAS X

Abstract


Abstract: This study delves into the analysis of the song "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" by Lil Nas X through the lens of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The introduction lays the groundwork by discussing the significance of language and music, highlighting the importance of understanding song lyrics. The methods section outlines the CDA approach adopted for data collection and analysis. The lyrics of the song are meticulously examined, focusing on discourse structure, social cognition, and social context. Each segment of the song is scrutinized, identifying themes, linguistic choices, and their implications. The discussion section further explores the macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure of the song, alongside its social cognition and context. Finally, the conclusion synthesizes the findings, emphasizing the song's role in challenging societal norms and advocating for self-acceptance and liberation.
