Grammatical Errors on Paperwork of English Literature Students Class of 2019 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan

Abstract


Grammar becomes one of the students' fears while learning English because there are so many grammar rules, which makes the students afraid or too lazy to learn it. This study was intended to discover grammatical errors in the paperwork written by the English Literature students at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan batch 2019. The research focused on identifying the types and sources of errors in their writings. Qualitative method was implemented for this study. As for the sample, the writer chose 5 paperwork from 5 different students as the main data and books and articles as the secondary data. The main data was taken by requesting one of the lecturers to give the writer permission to use the students’ paperwork as the object of the study. The type of paperwork the writer used was recount text. This study used Surface Strategy Taxonomy by Heidi C. Dulay to analyze the type of errors and to analyze the source of errors, the writer used intralingual and interlingual theory by Jack C. Richard. The study showed that the most common type of error made by students is misinformation with 210 frequency and the most common source of error made by students is intralingual False Concept Hypothesized with 200 frequency.
