Therapeutic communication between psychologist and schizophrenia patients in accelerating recovery at Asy-Syifa Arba Putra Primary Clinic Tanjungsari Sumedang 2024
Abstract
This research is based on data obtained that in West Java, schizophrenia has reached a high number of cases. Therefore, this research will examine how therapeutic communication can help accelerate the recovery process of schizophrenia patients at the Asy-Syifa Arba Putra Primary Clinic, Tanjungsari Sumedang. This research aims to understand how therapeutic communication can help alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life of schizophrenia patients. It is also expected to enhance the understanding of the interaction between psychologists and schizophrenia patients, as well as to provide guidelines for clinical practitioners in improving their interactions with schizophrenia patients to achieve optimal results. This research uses a descriptive qualitative study with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that the therapeutic communication process with schizophrenia patients at the Asy-Syifa Arba Putra Primary Clinic, Tanjungsari Sumedang, follows several stages. The stages in the therapeutic communication process for schizophrenia patients are: (1) Pre-Interaction, in which the therapist will explore their own feelings, including fantasies, anxieties, and fears when facing the patient. This is aimed at ensuring the therapist's awareness and readiness to establish a relationship with the patient. (2) Orientation, where the therapist builds a trusting relationship with the patient through open communication and sets the goals for interaction. (3) Working, the stage where the therapist and patient work together to solve existing problems, find solutions, and use specific communication methods to understand the patient's thoughts and feelings. (4) Termination, the stage of concluding the main issues discussed, providing information about the next steps, and giving the patient the opportunity to discuss their final needs. However, there are still some challenges, such as the patient's frequently changing emotional condition, which makes interaction difficult, and the patient having trouble remembering information or speaking clearly.
