Donald Trump’s Character as Depicted in His Presidential Debate Speech on Human Rights Policy 2016
Abstract
Since the 2016 presidential election campaign, Trump has offered the concept of American First: Make America Great Again. This will be revealed in this consideration through questions about Donald Trump's personal characteristics towards immigrants in the 2016 presidential debate speech. Donald Trump emphasized his passion for loving the American people and Trumps with his ideas of "America First" and "Make America Great Again". The purpose of this study is to determine the background and factors that influenced Donald Trump to form anti-immigrant policies in the 2016 presidential debate speech. This study uses a qualitative method with the type of concept of Margaret Herman (1980) "Explaining Foreign Policy Behavior Using the Personal Characteristics of a Political Leader racism. This explains how predetermined personal characteristics such as nationalism, self-confidence, need for power, and distrust of others. Things that need to be analyzed through his attitude, judgment, and words. From the indicators, Trump has a controversial leadership style and from some of his speeches about immigrants, Trump's characteristics can be concluded. Based on the brief description above, previous studies support the researcher's idea to analyze Donald Trump's characteristics as seen from Donald Trump's various policies towards immigrants in the US referring to nationalism policies, anti-immigrant policies and controversial anti-Muslim policies during his term as president and as seen from the presidential candidate debates in 2016.
