AN ANALYSIS OF L1 JOGJA JAVANESE ACCENT INTERFERENCE IN STUDENTS’ ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION

Abstract


When learning a foreign language, students often find it difficult to remove the accent of their first language because the language has been attached to them for a long time. Mixing when the pronunciation is called interference. Interference is a deviation when learning in a second or foreign language. The aims of this research is to find out the phonological interference of Javanese accent in students pronunciation. This research use qualitative methodology and the subjects in this study were the students from Ahmad Dahlan University Yogyakarta who came from the original Yogyakarta so their first language was Jogja Javanese Language. The researcher obtains data in this study by test, interview and recording it. The researcher used the triangulation approach in this study to improve the credibility and validity of the results. This research is still ongoing, and the findings are to be completed in the full paper submission.
