AN ANALYSIS OF THEMATIC PROGGESSION ON STUDENTS RECOUNT TEXT

Abstract


Thematic Progression contributes to the cohesive development of a text. Thematic Progression in order to give students more grammatical resources to improve the coherence of their writing, help them become aware of how information and ideas should flow in a text so that it could be easily understood by the reader. The research purpose is to investigate the types of theme that are found in students’ writing recount text and the coherent viewed from their thematic progression on the recount text. The research employed a qualitative design, embracing characteristic of a case study. The data were six students’ from three different levels of achievement including low, middle, and high achievers. The finding of this research will arise that the type of the students recount texts is textual and to use combination between reiteration (constant), zig-zag (linear), and multiple theme patterns. However, reiteration was the most dominant one and the second , third is based on the combination. It can be concluded that most of the recount texts produced by the students are not coherent. The english teacher should give the introduction of Thematic structures and Thematic progression to the students in order that they can make a good writing especially coherence of writing.Keywords: Thematic Progression,recount text
