Abstract

Tuberculosis is a disease that attacks the lung organ in humans and is one of the highest causes of death in Indonesia. Adolescents are one of the groups that are vulnerable to tuberculosis. This disease is prone to make individuals experience anxiety so that interventions are needed to reduce the level and symptoms of anxiety.  The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of cognitive behavior therapy in reducing anxiety levels. The research subjects were seven Madrasah Aliyah (MA) X students who had tuberculosis and were undergoing tuberculosis prevention therapy (TPT) with an age range of 13-15 years. This research method uses experimental quantitative research with one group pretest posttest design. The scale used to measure was the Beck Anxiety Inventory scale to determine the level of anxiety experienced by the subject. Data analysis using paired sample t-test with a significance value of 0.001 (<0.05) which can be concluded that there is a difference in anxiety levels before and after intervention. The results showed that cognitive behavioral group therapy is effective to reduce the level and symptoms of anxiety in MA X students who experience tuberculosis.
