TINGKAT KETERBACAAN KARANGAN EKSPOSISI SISWA KELAS X SMAN 12 KOTA TANGERANG BANTEN (PENERAPAN READABILITY TEST TOOLS)

Abstract

This study aims to find out the readability level of the students' expository writing at class X SMAN 12 Tangerang Banten.  The method used in this study is analitycal descriptive method in which 40 students' writings were analyzed and simply focused on the readability level of the writings.  The writer used readability test tools and gunning fog index as the instruments to measure the readability level of the students' expository writings. Based on the result of the study,  it was found that the number of the students expository writing from social class in the level of 15-18 is 75%. It means that the students' expository writings are suitable for their age of 20-24 while the students' writing showing too difficult level is 25%. This is suitable for those who are 24 years old or more.  The findings on the X grade students of Science Class showed that there are 50% on the level of very difficult which is equal to the age of 19-23, while the number of the students on the level 15-18 (equal to 20-24 years old) is 50% as well. It can be concluded that the readability level of the students' expository writings which were made by the Social and the Science Classes have exceeded the age level of Senior High School students.
