Abstract

This study examines how picture media is used for English learning at SD Muhammadiyah Bendosari and its impact on students. It aims to understand the frequency of usage, benefits, challenges, and student responses. Using a qualitative method, including interviews with three teachers and three students conducted over two weeks at SD Muhammadiyah Bendosari, data were collected through observations and interviews. This study found that picture media is frequently integrated into English lessons, with teachers often using it to create visual narratives that enhance students' understanding of language concepts. This approach significantly boosted student engagement, as teachers reported higher levels of participation and improved comprehension during lessons. Students responded positively, indicating that picture media made learning more enjoyable and helped them easily grasp difficult vocabulary and grammar concepts. Despite these benefits, the study identified several challenges such as technical issues and time constraints. Teachers reported problems with projectors and limited digital resources, as well as difficulties in preparing picture media materials due to other teaching responsibilities. The results emphasize the importance of careful implementation. The study suggests practical insights for teachers to optimize picture media use and enhance language learning. Positive student responses indicate its potential, but careful consideration is needed to avoid overwhelming students. In conclusion, this study contributes to the field by providing insights into the local context, confirming theoretical expectations, and offering practical recommendations for educators. Future research could delve deeper into addressing challenges and refining the use of picture media in language education.
